Report on 2019 Bay Area Memorial Day Classic

 

The 9^th annual Bay Area Memorial Day Classic was held May 25-27 at Cal Courts in Union City and Chabot College in Hayward. 61 teams competed in four divisions (17U Elite, 17U Varsity, 16U and 15U). Here is a report on the of players we observed/scouted. Players are listed alphabetically by last name.

6’0 SG Sean Akers of Union Mine HS 2020 (SSE Blue)

Knows how to play without the ball, knockdown shooter (catch and shoot). Runs the floor well, real nice passer, crafty finisher.

 

*6’7 P Ty Allred of Joab HS, UT 2021 (Salt Lake Metro 16U)

Postman with long arms and a versatile skill set on the block. Has a drop step, a turnaround shot and an up and under move. Pursues rebound fairly well.

 

6’1 CG Isaiah Bolden of Cordova HS 2020 (PHPS 17U)

Versatile combo guard with an impressive pull-up game, both in transition and in the half court. Has an ok (set) shot with 3-range and a solid floater.

 

*6’6 SF Colin Carey of Sunrise Mountain HS, AZ 2021 (AZ Factory)

Nice all-around scorer who can be a difficult matchup. Drives aggressively and has some lift to elevate and finish. Confident shooter with 3 range. Decent defender who shows potential at that end of the court.

 

6’1 SG Pete Corroon of West HS, UT 2020 (Salt Lake Metro 17 Black)

Competitive two guard. Shoot it well with long range and gets to the basket on the drive. Can rebound from the guard position. Has a consistent motor.

 

6’2 SF/PG Kendrick Currey of Sierra HS 2020 (Central Valley Warrior 17)

Long and athletic guard/wing. Has the ability to beak down defenders and get in the lane and make plays for himself and others. Must prove himself as an outside shooter.

 

6’5 W/E Jai Deshpande of Sacred Heart Prep 2020 (Bay City Warriors 17U Showcase)

Simply, he shot the lights out in this event. Proved he is a big-time shooter. He can run the floor pretty well and is able to finish in transition. His biggest need is to develop some bulk/strength.

 

*6’1 PG Daniel Fagan of De Anza HS 2020 (Team Rampage)

Excellent athlete who pushes the tempo consistently. Has a nice hesitation burst and a very nice floater. Effective rebounder from the guard position.

 

6’5 PF Marcellus Franklin of Sacramento HS 2022 (PHPS 15U Black)

Four-men who finds ways to get things done. Can score on the short one-bounce drive and dribble operating on the block. Capable rebounder in his area.

 

5’11 CG Aaron Gilyard of Elk Grove HS 2021 (PHPS 16U)

Makes things happen with the ball in his hand. Effective penetrator/driver with a nice first step. Also has a solid pull-up game in the half court.

 

6’3 G Dominic Gonzalez of Ironwood HS, AZ 2020 (AZ Factory 17U)

Athletic with a nice first step. Penetrates ok and passes it well. Can shoot it and has 3 range. Shows the ability to rebound from the guard position. Has a nice feel, plays with confidence.

 

6’3 SG Isaiah Gray of Kennedy HS 2020 (PHPS 17U)

Real nice speed. Pushes the break hard. Finishes real well in transition, shoots it ok (3 range) and has a nice floater. Fairly good driver who plays in attack mode.

 

*6’5 SF Dylan Hayman of Healdsburg HS, 2021 (Sonoma County Cagers)

MVP of the 17 Varsity division. Tough and aggressive. Someone who will battle consistently. Capable ball skills, finds ways to score, solid rebounder.

 

*6’6 PF/C Garret Keyhani of Menlo School 2022 (Team Esface 2022)

Combo postman with big feet and long arms. Ok ball handler, moves without the ball, has a one-bounce drive, finishes well, shoots it fairly well with 3 range. Solid rebounder who does pursue the ball, can block shots. The kid is legit!

 

6’6 PF Kevin Kogbara of Peoria HS, AZ 2021 (AZ Factory 16)

Big body, strong, good hands. Capable ball handler, good passer. Good feel for the game. Can rebound.

 

6’0 CG Nate Lewitt of Prospect HS 2022 (Top Flight Elite 15 Red)

Skilled combo guard whose best asset is his ability to get to the basket, both in transition and in the half court. Goes hard on the drive and finishes well.

 

6’6 PF/C Dajon Lott of Elk Grove HS 2022 (PHPS 15U Black)

Combo postman with potential who can impact the game in different ways at both ends. Needs to play hard consistently.

 

*6’5 CF Calvin Mader-Clark of Hillsdale HS 2022 (Team Esface 2022)

Combo forward who can score inside and outside. Plays without it, passes it well, does the job on the glass. High IQ, contributes in many ways.

 

6’3 PG Matthew Marzano of Palo Alto HS 2020 (Peak 17U)

Goes all out all the time. Supreme ball handler, good decision maker, sees the floor, goes hard in transition. Shoots it ok with 3 range (slow release). Makes things happen.

 

5’11 CG Kori Mc Coy of Sacred Heart Cathedral HS 2020 (Bay City Warriors 17 Showcase)

Skilled and athletic combo guard. Plays with confidence-willing to take the big shot. Confident ball handler and a solid passer. Has a pull-up game in the half court.

 

6’4 SF Michael Mc Culley of Pitman HS 2020 (Stanco Stampede)

Runs well, has a very nice pull up game on the break and in the half court. Drives it well, shoots it ok and is a solid rebounder.

 

6’0 G Nathan Roman of Cardinal Newman HS, 2020 (Sonoma County Cagers)

Nice all-around skills offensively. Understands help defense. Does the little things to help a team win.

 

5’11 SG Dean Saleh of Oakland Tech HS 2021 (Team Superstar 17U)

Fairly athletic two-guard with a nice all-around offensive game, very efficient. Shooting (long range), driving, floater shot are all part of his package.

 

6’7 F Lucas Saleh of Prolific Prep 2019 (NBBA 17U Carattini)

Handles it well enough to start the break and distribute. Plays without it in the half court. Shoots it ok from 3, ok rebounder. Knows how to play.

 

6’1 CG Derek Smith of Delta HS, UT 2020 (Salt Lake Metro 17 Black)

Affects the game in multiple ways at the offensive end. Makes plays in transition, pulls up in the half court, shoots it (3 range), gets to the basket on the drive.

 

6’2 SG Isaac Torres of Piner HS 2021 (Santa Rosa Bearcubs Black)

Gets a lot done, both on the break and in the half court. Money passer, versatile scorer and a capable rebounder.

 

6’0 SG Anthony Vaughn of Union Mine HS 2020 (SSE Blue)

Very good shooter (catch and shoot). Moves fairly well without the ball, runs the floor well. Can handle it but does not create much-more of a system guy. Can score in bunches.

 

6’2 CG Nick Weitzel of St Francis HS 2021 (BMG Academy 16U Black)

Solid ball handler and a pin-point passer. Can run the floor. Has the ability to score at all three levels.

 

*6’5 PG Dmaurian Williams of Westview HS, AZ 2019 (AZ Factory 17U)

The best player in the event. (MVP of the 17U Elite division). Went by defenders at will on the drive. Great first step and finishes well. Showing some signs as a perimeter shooter. Solid ball handling and passing skills. Scores and creates for others. Nice feel, leader, winner. Available D1 prospect.

6’2 SG Tyler Biddison of Springville HS, UT 2020 (Salt Lake Metro Gold)

Runs the floor consistently. A real leader, team guy. Shoots it well, can defend, plays hard.

 

6’3 G/W Latwan Brown of Jefferson HS, OR 2021 (Active PCH Boyz 16U)

Athletic guard/wing with long arms who contributes at both ends.

 

6’3 F Nolan Capurra of Cardinal Newman HS 2021 (Santa Rosa Bearcubs)

Can defend and rebound. Has a one- bounce drive. Very good passer. Has a soft touch mid-range.

 

5’5 PG Trey Carrido of St. Mary’s HS 2022 (Stockton Hoops 15u)

Has speed and quickness. Drives (finishes well) and penetrates consistently. Relentless defender, team player.

 

*6’1 SG Alex Castagnoli of Grant HS, OR 2021 (Active PCH Boyz 16U)

Versatile all-around game, runs the floor well, has some attitude, does make thing happen.

 

6’1 G/W Elian Castillon of St. Mary’s HS 2022 (Stockton Hoops 15U)

Versatile guard/wing. Can handle it and create his own shot. Capable rebound. Steps up when the game is on the line.

 

6’4 P Loren Castro of Vintage HS 20202 (NBBA 17U Carattini)

Physical postman, seals well, has decent foot-works. Can defend in the post.

 

5’10 PG Cameron Chantha of Piner HS 2021 (Santa Rosa Bearcubs Black)

Strong ball handling skills, sees the floor well. Can play on or off the ball. Moves real well without it. Effective 3-point shooter.

 

6’3 PF Milandav Chatha of Fremont HS 2022 (BMG Academy 15U)

Finishes well with either hand, pursues rebound well. Capable defender inside or on the perimeter.

 

5’8 PG Dareon Collins of Grant Union HS 2021 (PHPS 16U)

Can handle it but has a tendency to over-dribble. Has a nice middle game in the half court. Shoots it ok (3 range), has a floater.

 

6’1 SG Jamar Collins of Pittsburg HS 2022 (APT)

Has a nice shooting stroke. Attacks and finishes well going left (left handed).

 

6’3 G/F Jack Connors of Harker Academy 2020 (West Valley)

Versatile offensively-contributor in many ways. Plays multiple positions.

 

6’4 PF Eddie Cotton of Lathrop HS  2021 (Team Creation 17U)

Strong and hard-working. Can dribble operate and post up. Moves ok without the ball. Decent rebounder in his area.

 

6’3 SF Amondre Dubose of Jefferson HS 2021 (Active PCH Boys 16U)

Can defend, solid rebounder, pulls up well half court, drives to the basket at will.

 

5’8 PG Jacob Ebert of Cornerstone Christian HS 2021 (Team Rampage)

Decent athlete, solid ball handler. Nice first step, very effective pull-up game in the half court.

 

6’1 PG/SG Mykola Ediger of Half Moon Bay HS 2021 (Bay City Warriors 16 Blue)

Makes good decision. Real good passer who finds the open man. Very solid defender.

 

6’4 CF Mohmoud Fofana of Santa Teresa HS 2020 (West Coast Xtreme)

Athletic-has hope, long arms, a little thin. Decent ball handler. Solid on the ball defender/rim protector. Does the job on the boards.

 

*6’0 SG Anthony Garcia of Capital Christian HS (PHPS 15 Red)

Shooting is his forte. Also a capable ball handler, has a solid floater drive.

 

6’0 SG Brayden Greenlee of Napa HS 2021 (NBBA 16U Prescott)

Attacks on the drive both ways and finishes with either hand, can shoot the 3, good on-ball defender.

 

6’0 PG Kheti Goss of Castro Valley HS 2020 (Splash City 17U)

Steady ball handler, strong passer, shoots it ok from long range, has a nice hesitation move.

 

6’1 PG Miles Guliford of Liberty HS 2021 (AZ Factory 16U)

Solid ball handler, runs the team. Can get in the lane and makes plays.

 

 

5’9 PG Drew Gunn of Gilroy HS 2021 (West Valley)

Nice ball handling and passing skills. Can shoot it with range. Solid driver/penetrator, team leader.

Average /fair athlete, has a versatile game. Ok handler, passes it well, sees the floor.

Knock down mid-range shot, attacks the rim on the drive. Capable rebounder.

Athletic two guard. Solid three-point shooter, attacks the basket-has a nice first step.

MVP of the 16U division. Competitive point guard with solid ball handling and passing skills, runs a team, knows how to play.

 

6’1 SG Jonathan Hicken of Lone Peak HS, UT 2020 (Salt Lake Metro Gold)

Ok ball handler, can pass it. Moves well without the ball, good shooter with 3-point range. Does work hard.

 

5’10 G Yuval Hod of Mountain View HS 2021 (BMG Academy 16 Gray)

Real nice shooter, smooth ball handler, finishes well, uses ball screens to his advantage.

 

6’0 PG Mark Huber of Bear River HS, UT 2020 (Salt Lake Metro Gold)

Confident ball handler, passes it well. Makes plays in transition, gets to the basket on the drive.

 

6’5 PF Ethan Jetter of California HS 2020 (Bay City warriors 17 Showcase)

Strong, real good rebounder, can defend, has a mini jump hook, good passer.

 

*6’3 G/W Sunday John of Willow Canyon HS, AZ 2020 (AZ Factory 17U)

Very athletic and active guard/wing. Real nice driver with a big time first step. Perimeter shot is a little suspect at this point. Has the ability to defend all positions on the perimeter. High-energy guy with a nice motor.

 

6’2 SG Hayden Johnson of Cardinal Newman HS 2021 (Santa Rosa Bearcubs Black)

Has a nice 3-point shot, attacks the rim on the drive. Aggressive defender, has a high IQ.

Savvy hander, pushes the break well. Moves real well without the ball, solid driver.

Knockdown shooter, solid ball handling skills. Capable playmaker in transition.

Very athletic one-man. Solid driver with a real nice first step. Shoots it fairly well with three-point range.

High energy hustler, rebounds at both ends, can score on the block shoots it ok mid-range, defends at the rim.

A hustler with nice motor. Sets up team mates well. Effective perimeter, good passer.

High IQ, can defend inside, stretches the floor with 3-point shooting, capable ball handler.

Solid ball handling skills. Has a decent pull-up game. Good defender. Plays hard.

Long and athletic. Great court vision/excellent passer. Good on-ball defender, deflects a lot of passes. Finishes well.

 

6’3 PF Jadiah Shockley of Sacramento HS 2022 (PHPS 15U Red)

Decent ball handler, passes it well, ok playmaker in transition, gets the basket on the drive. A cut-about rebounder.

 

6’2 SG Jake Skaggs of Los Altos HS 2022 (BMG Academy 15U)

Real nice shooter with range, good wing defender, smart, competes.

Aggressive, works hard. Attacks the basket on the drive. Very good rebounder. Solid defender on the perimeter.

Plays beyond his youthfulness, understands the game. Solid driver, has a perimeter shot.

Runs a team, control the tempo. Pushes the break, sees the floor very well. Finishes well, can shoot the three. Elite defender who can guard multiple position.

Athletic combo guard, sees the floor, can finish in transition, shoots it ok from distance, good defender.

Smooth ball handling skills. Pulls up very nicely in transition. Good shooter with long range.

Fair/decent athlete, real good passer. Has a pull up game in the half court, ok rebounder.

Has a solid skill set. Nice motor-competes on every possession.
