Report on 2024 West Coast Showcase
The 15th annual West Coast Showcase was held Sunday October 27 at Pinetree Community Center in Coquitlam, British Columbia under the direction of Matt McKay, head coach of
Douglas College. Here is a report on the event with the prospects that attracted our attention.
Top Prospects: (* indicates highest consideration for this category) 6’3 SF Earl Akene of Pacific Academy HS (LTS 4)
Akene is a strong and athletic wing with a solid skill set. He’s a solid ball handler who finishes well in transition and has a nice pull up in the mid-range. He shoots it ok (3 range) and he is an impressive driver. Akene is also an active rebounder.
5’7 PG Kingston Brown of Vancouver College HS 2028 (LTS 1)
Brown is a very athletic one-man who really pushes the envelope on the fast break. He’s a
confident ball handler who attacks in transition with speed to burn. He makes a ton of plays for himself and others and he has a knack for making the right pass at the right time.
6’0 CG Carter Curby of Grandview Heights HS 2025 (Academy 3)
Curby is a competitive combo guard who gets after it on every possession. He’s an accomplished ball handler who attacks in transition and finishes well. Curby is a good one to have on your side.
6’0 PG Sunny Dhami of Tamanawis HS 2025 (Wildcats)
Dhami is a very solid one-man with good skills who does a nice job running a team. He handles it well and is a real good passer who sees the floor and finds the open man real well. He can
shoot it ok (with 3 range) and he has a nice floater. Dhami is a true baller who makes his team go.
6’11 C Luka Guzina of Tamanawis HS 2026 (Wildcats)
Guzina is a true five-man who can run with a capable all-around post-up game. He has a decent drop step, a spin move and a turnaround shot. He moves ok without the ball and is able to get open inside on a consistent basis. Guzina can rebound but needs to pursue the ball more.
6’4 CF Maahir Julka of Lord Tweedsmuir HS 2028 (Academy 5)
Julka is a very solid combo forward who knows how to play. He can handle it some and is a good passer who has some ability to finish in transition. He’s a decent face-up driver who has a nice spin move on the block and he is a capable rebounder. Julka uniquely does a nice job setting screens to get teammates open.
*6’1 PG Connor MacLellan of Grandview Heights HS (Royals)
MacLellan is a skilled one-man who brings a lot to the table. He’s a good ball handler and passer who sees the floor and is effective in transition. He has an impressive pull up on the break, he
shoots it ok with 3-range and he gets to the hoop on the drive. MacLellan understands help defense and is often in position to help on the drive.
*5’10 PG Amare Madahar of Churchill HS 2027 (LTS 3)
Madahar is an energetic and fairly athletic one-man who gets a lot of things done. He handles and passes it well and he sees the floor well as he pushes the break on every possession. He’s a solid driver who gets by defenders consistently and he has a real nice floater. Best of all,
Madahar has a good motor that is always running.
6’6 PF Crewe Preston of Vancouver Technical HS 2026 (Academy 2)
Preston is a four man with long arms and good hands who gets the most out of what he has. He’s a decent ball handler who can face-up drive a little and he can post up some. On the other end, Preston is a solid rebounder who can block a shot.
*6’2 PG Brayden Redekop of Abbotsford Christian HS 2025 (Academy 1)
Redekop is an impactful one man who has a very complete skill set who runs well. He can pretty much do everything you need offensively, including some ability to post up. He can handle it, is a good passer and does a real nice job finishing on the break. He shoots it fairly well with 3 range and is a solid driver. Redekop can also rebound the ball. Nice all-around game…
6’6 CF Carter Reynolds of Carihi Secondary 2025 (Academy 1)
Reynolds is a combo forward with long arms and a versatile skill set who can run the floor. He’s a decent ball handler who passes it well and he can pull up in the half court. He moves ok
without the ball and shoots it ok with 3 range. Reynolds also finds a way to come up with rebounds.

Decent athlete, can run, handles fairly well, good passer, does see the floor, finishes in transition, ok/fairly good 3-point shooter, runs a team.
6’5 PF/C/SF Tristan Carter of Prince Wales HS 2027 (Academy 3)
Average athlete, decent handler, real good passer, has a decent mini jump hook, can rebound.
*6’3 CF Xander Cochran of George Elliot Secondary (Academy 6)
Average athlete, long arms, decent ball handler, sets a screen, can rebound, works on defense.
6’4 W/G Victor Cortel of Tamanawis HS 2026 (Wildcats)
Average athlete, can run, capable ball handler, real good passer, does see the floor, ok rebounder.
6’3 SG Ollie Ecker of St. George School 2025 (2TS 4)
Average athlete, ok handler, good passer, sees the floor, moves well without the ball.
6’3 G/W Myles Galazka of Meadowridge HS 2027 (Academy 3)
Fair athlete, has lift/can elevate, can handle, good passer, moves ok/fairly well without the ball, shows a jump hook, ok rebounder.

Fair athlete, can run, handles it well, sees the floor in transition, pulls up in the half court, moves ok without the ball, ok 3-point shooter, runs a team, is a leader, makes things happen
5’5 PG Nolan Gavia of Seaqaum HS 2028 (LTS 1)
Decent athlete, handles it well, can pull up in the half court, ok 3-point shooter, decent floater, drives hard.
6’3 W/G Wells Grundy of Kelowna Secondary 2027 (Academy 3)
Fair athlete, is active, ok ball handler, can pass, ok driver, capable rebounder, can he shoot?
5’9 PG Mark Hipolito of St Thomas More HS 2027 (LT2)
Fair athlete, can run, good ball handler, capable in transition, ok driver.
6’2 CG Udhav Juneja of Holy Cross HS 2028 (Academy 7)
Average athlete, can handle it, decent half court pull up, sets a screen well, talks well, knows how to play.
6’4 SF Hart Kreter of Lord Byng HS 2026 (LTS 4)
Average/fair athlete, can handle, finishes ok in transition, decent half court pull up, moves ok without the ball, ok driver.

Average/fair athlete, can run, handles it well, sees the floor, moves ok without the ball, shoots it ok (3 range), drives it well – has a hesitation move.
*6’2 SF Chuku Mabeny of Byrne Creek HS 2026
Fairly athletic, long arms, ok ball handler, moves ok without the ball, has a solid hesitation drive.

Ok athlete, can handle it, decent half court pull up, ok driver.

Fair athlete, can run, ok handler, pulls up in the mid-range, ok 3-point shooter.

Fairly good athlete, runs well, capable ball handler, ok 3-point shooter, has an ok floater.

Average athlete, good ball handler and passer, can pull up in the mid-range, ok 3-point shooter, decent driver.

Average athlete, can handle it, capable driver – goes hard to the hoop, works on defense.

Ok athlete, runs well, solid ball handler, can pass, fairly good 3-point shooter.
