Here is a look at the prospects who participated in the Hoop Review evaluation workout on Thursday, October 22 at the Slam Academy in Hayward. It was a matchup between Team Rampage and Team Los Altos.
Team Los Altos
6’3 G/W Dom D’Augusta of Los Altos HS (2021)
D’Augusta is a guard/wing who plays in attack mode at the offensive end and can run the floor all day long. He gets things done in transition for himself and others and finishes well at the end of the break. He’s an effective driver in the half court and he passes it well. He can defend on ball but does need to be more consistent at it.
6’3 G/W Nico D’Augusta of Los Altos HS (2022)
D’Augusta is a guard/wing with a solid offensive arsenal. He can score in a lot of ways and can be a problem matchup. He is a very good passer who makes a ton of plays in transition. He shoots it fairly well with long range, has a solid floater and does a nice job breaking down defenders on the drive. He needs to pursue rebounds more consistently.
6’0 CG Brandon Gottlieb of Los Altos HS (2021)
Gottlieb is a competitive combo guard who gives it his all from start to finish. He plays with smarts and confidence and is developing his perimeter shot pretty well. He also has a nice floater and he moves very well without the ball. He passes it well and can find the open man on a consistent basis.
6’3 CG Parker McDonald of Serra HS (2020)
McDonald is back at it after a year away and looking for an opportunity…
He’s a skilled athletic combo guard who does a lot of things at the offensive end. He’s a good passer who drops dimes regularly. He is an impressive driver with a nice hesitation move and he shoots it ok with 3 range. His need at this point is to develop more conditioning. Do put him on the radar coaches.
5’11 SG Sean Kennedy of Half Moon Bay HS (2021)
Kennedy is a very hard-working shooting guard who maximizes what he has. His motor is always running and he is in constant motion without the ball. He shoots it well with long range and a lot of confidence. And more significantly he makes a lot of hustle/effort plays.
6’3 SG Nick Tumlin of California HS (2021)
Tumlin is a two guard who can really fill it up with long range and has a gunslinger mentality. Don’t leave him open or he will bury you. He has a pull up game in the half court and he is an ok driver. He is a solid and consistent rebounder from the guard position. He does need to show more in half court defense.
6’3 SG Nick Weitzel of St. Francis HS (2021)
Weitzel is a versatile shooting guard who brings a whole lot to the table. He is a pin-point passer who makes a lot of assists. He is effective in transition showing the ability to pull up and to finish. He has a solid mid-range game in the half court and he shoots it fairly well with 3 range and he can get to the basket on the drive. He does have a tendency to over-dribble at times.
Team Rampage
5’10 CG Jacob Ebert of Cornerstone Christan HS (2021)
Ebert had an exceptional performance at this session. He’s an athletic combo guard who can really run. He is big time on the break and finishes at the end very well. In the half court he has an excellent mid-range pull-up game and he is in constant motion without the ball. He is really quick and breaks down defenders on the drive consistently. Ebert is also a fairly good 3-point shooter. He is a very difficult matchup who falls in the “very hard to guard” category. He is way under-recruited and clearly belongs on the 2021 radar.
6’2 G/W Lucky Hampton of Salesian HS (2021)
Hampton is a real athletic guard/wing with speed, burst and quickness- a real jet on the court. He attacks in transition and finishes well. He’s a good passer who makes a lot of on-the-money passes. Hampton has a great first step and gets by defenders almost at will. He shoots it ok with 3 range and can pull up in the mid-range. He’s also a solid defender and rebounder.
6’0 SG Juwelle Jack of Vallejo HS (2021)
Jack is a two guard with nice athleticism who can really score. He runs real well and can finish in transition consistently. He is a confident shooter with long range and he has a very nice hesitation move on the drive. He has a dime-stop pull up in the mid-range. Jack does need to show more at the defensive end.
6’0 G/W Mike Johnson of Will C Wood HS (2022)
Johnson is an elitely athletic guard/wing who is a very efficient player. He fits in nicely as a team guy and makes the right play at the right time. And his effort is very consistent. He’s a good driver with a nice first step and he can shoot it ok with 3 range. Johnson passes it well and he plays very unselfishly. He is also a high-volume rebounder who goes after the ball at both ends.
6’1 SG Jeremiah Jones of Salesian HS (2021)
Jones is a two guard with big-time athleticism who has a very complete offensive game. He brings a lot to the table and is a hard matchup. Jones finishes on the fast break and he can score every way possible in the half court other than posting up. He also moves very well without the ball. You got your work cut out if you are trying to guard him.
6’4 G/W Mikey Pierce of American Canyon HS (2022)
Pierce is an athletic guard/wing who is a talented offensive player. He has a very impressive mid-range pull-up game and he shoots it well with long range. He also has an effective floater. Pierce does a nice job pulling up in transition. He does need to develop more bulk/strength to prepare for the next level. And he needs to be more aggressive at the defensive end.
