Here is the report on the Hoop Review evaluation workout that was held Tuesday October 13th at Slam Academy in Hayward. It was a matchup between Chavez High School from Stockton and Stanco Stampede from Turlock.
Chavez High
5’8 CG Sa’Jean Alford 2022
Alford is an athletic combo guard with an impressive all-around game offensively. And he plays with a lot of hustle.
He’s a confident ball handler and passer who finishes well in transition. In the half court he pretty much can score any way possible other than posting up.
Alford can shoot it with 3 range and he has a solid pull-up game in the mid-range. He has a good first step on the drive and a very nice floater. And he moves well without the ball.
This kid is a legit prospect for the next level in the 2022 class.
6’7 C Jordan Chum 2022
Chum is a hard-working five man who has a versatile package. He does a lot of different things to impact the game.
He is somewhat methodical but he can dribble operate on the block and he has a clever up and under move. He also has a decent one-bounce short drive.
Chum moves ok without it and does a nice job with catch and shoot from the mid range. He can pass and finds the open man well. And he does a nice job setting screens on or off the ball.
He can rebound the ball in his area and he is a willing defender. His biggest need at this point is developing more conditioning.
Chum has potential and he is also a 4.0 student. Every school needs a big. Coaches need to follow his progress.
5’10 Raiden Comeaux 2022
Comeaux is an athletic shooting guard with a pretty complete package offensively. He can put the ball in the basket in a lot of different ways.
He sees the floor and he is a good passer who can find the open man. He runs the floor well and he moves ok without it in the half couret.
Comeaux shoots it ok with long range, he has a solid floater and he can break down defenders on the one on one drive.
He finds a way to come up with rebounds but could show more defensively.
But Comeaux does belong on the 2022 radar for college coaches to check out.
6’2 PF/C Danbir Ghuman 2022
Ghuman is a strong-body combo postman who is the “enforcer” type of player. He is physical and aggressive at both ends.
He is a team guy all the way who does not care if he scores a single point. He sets a mean on-ball screen. Guards will like playing with him because he will get them open on the pick and roll.
Ghuman will work hard defending the post and he does a consistent job pursuing rebounds. He is willing to do the dirty work.
This is the type of player that every team needs.
6’0 SG Carlos Gomez 2021
Gomez is a two-guard who keeps coming at you on the attack at the offensive end. He is persistent and productive.
He has a wide variety of scoring weapons with a perimeter shot, a mid-range pull-up, a floater and a drive. He uses them all on a regular basis.
Gomez is fundamentally sound and has a pretty good understanding of how to play.
He is a little on the thin side and needs to develop some bulk/strength and a little more conditioning. And he would help his cause to be a consistent factor on the defensive end.
5’8 PG Terrell Tek 2024
Tek is a fairly athletic one-man who has a solid makeup to his game at both ends and shows promise for the future.
He sees the floor well and he is a very nice passer who plays unselfishly. He fits a team well.
Tek has a real nice hesitation move on the drive and he has an effective floater. He does need to prove himself as a perimeter shooter.
He is a capable on-ball defender and does a nice job of rebounding for a guard without size.
Tek is a guy that coaches need to follow moving forward.
5’5 PG Jo Jo Yann 2022
Yann is an energetic point guard who pushes the envelope on the fast break and can make some plays.
He handles and passes it well and does make good decisions for the most part.
He can play the role of a floor general or that of a scorer as the team needs dictate.
Yann shoots it ok (3 range), has a pull-up game and a floater, and can get to the hoop on the drive.
He’s a good one to have on your side for sure.
Stanco Stampede (All Turlock High School)
6’1 SG Kyle Erickson 2022
Erickson is a high IQ shooting guard who makes a lot of positive contributions. He seems to have a knack for making the right play at the right time.
He can handle and pass it and he is in constant motion without it. He is a confident 3-point shooter who takes good shots.
Erickson has an ok floater and shows a comfortable pull-up game in the mid-range.
He does a decent job rebounding the ball and will work hard at the defensive end.
6’3 SG Michael Heidelbach 2022
Heidelbach is a two guard who showed out during this session and gave an indication he is arriving as a player.
He is a legit shooter with 3 range and always has been. He just needs to improve his shot selection and it looks like he is making strides in that regard.
Heidelbach is an impressive passer who drops dimes on the break and in the half court. He can get to the basket on the drive and he has a solid floater.
He needs to show more at the defensive end. If that happens, he will start getting some attention.
5’8 PG Luke Joseph 2022
Joseph is an aggressive one-man who gets a lot done through skill and effort. He plays in attack mode on both ends of the floor.
He’s a smooth handler and he is a very nice passer who pushes the break hard. He has a real good floater at the end of the break.
Joseph has a very good-looking perimeter shot and he can fill it up consistently. He is really effective pulling up in the mid-range. He has a deceptive first step and gets by defenders on the drive pretty well.
He works real hard as an on-ball defender and does a nice job pressuring the opponent.
This kid may not be big in size but he certainly plays big.
6’3 SF/PF Gavin LeVake 2022
Levake is a hard-working combo forward who has an inside-outside game.
He is very clever around the basket and finds ways to score. He uses his body well and can finish with contact. He does move well without the ball and he is a decent face-up driver.
LeVake is a good rebounder in his area-he goes after the ball, and he will battle defensively.
This is a kid who fits in well and college coaches will see that when they watch him play.
6’2 SF Luke LaVake 2022
LaVake is a small forward with a wide variety of skills at the offensive end.
He’s a decent ball handler who can pass it. He has a short pull-up jump hook and a running floater drive/hook.
LaVake can shoot it some mid-range and he can beat the defender on the short-range drive. He is a fair postup player and he moves fairly well without the ball.
He does need to show more on the defensive end and on the boards.
LaVake shows some possibilities for the next level and belongs on the 2022 radar.
5’11 CG Daniel Malagon 2022
Malagon is a highly competitive combo guard with a nice skill set and a ton of hustle to his game. He does many good things at both ends and makes a lot of effort plays.
He handles it fairly well and he is a pin-point passer. He gets to the basket consistently at the end of the break.
Malagon is in constant motion without the ball in the half court. He has a very nice hesitation burst on the drive. He is a confident shooter with 3-range and he pulls up well in the mid-range.
He is a good on-ball defender who really works at it and he does a solid job rebounding for a guard.
This kid is a legitimate prospect who coaches need to check out.
