Here is a look at the prospects who participated in the Hoop Review Evaluation Workout program on Tuesday, September 29th at Slam Academy in Hayward.
6’0 G Jevon Blackmore of St. Patrick – St. Vincent HS (2022)
Blackmore is an athletic guard with a real nice burst and a solid all-around game. He has an impressive package.
He is a capable ball handler with a nice first step who breaks down defenders on the drive consistently. He’s a good passer who does a nice job finding the open man.
Blackmore is a decent perimeter shooter but probably does need to show a little more consistency in this area.
He is a capable defender and a solid rebounder from the guard position.
Blackmore is a legit 2022 prospect who belongs on the radar.
6’2 SG Luke Buddie of Woodside HS (2022)
Buddie is a skilled and competitive shooting guard with a lot of hustle to his game and a high IQ. He makes a ton of effort plays and he really understands the game.
He has an impressive skill set which makes him that much more attractive.
Buddie shoots the ball well with 3 range and he takes good shots. He is an aggressive driver who gets to the hoop on a consistent basis. And he pulls up very nicely in the half court.
He is an impressive rebounder who goes after the ball and he is a hard-working on-ball defender.
College coaches – it’s hard not to like Luke Buddie. Get on him!
5’9 PG Eric Green of Alvarez HS (2022)
Green is a very athletic one-man with impressive speed and quickness. He is a jet that can really go.
He really pushes the envelope on the fast break consistently and effectively. He is a good passer who finds the open man well. He’s got a solid pull up game in the half court and moves well without the ball.
Green has an excellent first step and he is able to break down defenders well on the drive. And he has a real smooth hesitation move.
He does penetrate into the lane well and makes plays for himself and others. He would help his cause to show more of a perimeter shot.
Green is a capable on-ball defender who has the athleticism to guard anyone on the perimeter.
The kid is a legitimate class of 2022 prospect.
6’2 G/W Amos Hodgson of Bishop O’Dowd HS (2023)
Hodgson is an athletic guard/wing who is a very intriguing young prospect. He has a nice skill set and can be a difficult matchup for the opponent.
He is a versatile scorer who can score every way possible. He gets to the basket on the drive. He shoots it fairly well from the perimeter. And he has a mid-range pull-up game.
Hodgson is in constant motion without the ball which makes it more problematic to guard him.
He is a capable defender but probably needs to show a little more aggressiveness at that end.
Hodgson is a division I prospect who belongs high on the 2023 radar.
5’11 CG Sean Kennedy of Half Moon Bay HS (2021)
Kennedy is a skilled and tough combo guard who plays the game the right way and has some ability. He competes on every play.
He runs the floor hard on every possession and he is in constant motion in the half court. He finishes well at the end of the break.
Kennedy has a solid pull-up game in the half court. He shoots it confidently with 3 range and he is a very aggressive driver.
He works hard as an on-ball defender and will make things difficult for his opponent.
Kennedy is an impressive prospect in the 2021 class that coaches need to check out.
5’11 PG Daniel Malagon of Turlock HS (2022)
Malagon is an athletic point guard who plays with a lot of confidence and has a good understanding of the game.
He’s a solid ball handler and passer who sees the court and makes pretty good decisions. He makes plays for himself and others, both on the break and in the half court.
Malagon is a good-looking shooter with 3 range and a real effective driver.
He’s an active defender who does a solid job pressuring the ball.
Malagon will play college basketball with the level to be determined…
6’6 PF/SF Jake Skaggs of Los Altos HS (2022)
Skaggs is a combo forward with a solid all-around package. He brings a lot to the table.
He’s a capable ball handler who can score in different ways. He can put it down and get to the basket on the drive. He can post up some and has an ok drop step move.
Skaggs is a solid 3-point shooter and he has a competent floater. He is a lefty who is able to use his right hand at times.
He can rebound the ball and he does pursue the missed shot.
Skaggs is a class of 2022 prospect who belongs on the radar for coaches to check out.
6’3 G/W Nick Tumlin of California HS (2021)
Tumlin is a competitive guard/wing with good skills and a genuine understanding of how to play. He has some tools and he “gets it” as they say.
He is a solid ball handler who can rebound and go coast to coast if you don’t stop him.
Tumlin has a solid pull-up game in the half court. He is a good 3-point shooter who is effective at catch and shoot. He is an aggressive driver who can get to the hoop and finish.
He is a capable rebounder and he does work hard on the defense.
Tumlin is a solid prospect in the 2021 class and college coaches definitely need to check him out.
6’3 SF Josh Weatherbee of Turlock HS (2023)
Weatherbee is a steady and hard-working three-man who does not make a lot of mistakes and fits into a team quite well.
He has a pretty high IQ and is a guy a coach can really trust on the court.
Weatherbee is a capable ball handler who does a nice job getting to the hoop on the drive. He can hit an open shot from the perimeter and he always takes good shots.
He’s a good rebounder who goes after the ball and he gives his best effort on defense.
This is a young prospect who college coaches need to watch. There is a place for this type of player when you are putting a team together.
6’0 CG Tyson Weatherbee of Turlock HS (2021)
Weatherbee (brother of Josh) is a tough-minded combo guard who comes to play every day. He’s a bonafide competitor.
He can play on or off the ball comfortably and capably. He’s a good decision maker who has a nice feel for the game.
Weatherbee is a very confident ball handler who sees the floor well and is a good passer who will get the ball to the open man in the right situation.
He works hard as an on-ball defender and finds a way to come up with rebounds.
Weatherbee is a good one to have on your side!
6’0 CG Sirod Winters of Cristo Del Rey HS (2023)
Winters is a real athletic combo guard with a nice burst who is an impressive scorer. He can be a problem matchup for the opponent.
He can handle the ball and he has an excellent pull-up game in the half court. He has a good first step and he can break down the defender on the drive.
Winters is a fairly good mid-range shooter (needs a little work from 3) and he has a solid floater.
He does work at it on defense and has the athleticism to guard any player on the perimeter.
He needs to develop a little more conditioning as he has a tendency to get tired (and slow his game down).
But Winters is a very promising young prospect who college coaches really need to check out.
