Here is a report on the August 29 matchup between the Stockton Solider and West Coast Xtreme AAU teams at Slam Academy in Hayward that was part of the Hoop Review Evaluation/Workout program.
Stockton Soldiers
5’9 PG Xavion Bell of Weston Ranch HS (2023)
Bell is a real athletic one-man with nice burst and acceleration who runs the floor very well.
He is a solid ball handler and passer who pushes the break consistently and makes plays for himself and others. He does have the ability to go coast to coast unless you stop him.
Bell is an effective penetrator/driver with a nice first step who breaks down defenders and gets in the lane quite well. And he has a clever floater shot at the rim. He probably does need to prove himself as a perimeter shooter.
Bell runs a team effectively and is a competent facilitator/distributer.
He has potential as an on-ball defender and just needs to attack on defense like he does on offense.
Bell is a legit prospect in the class of 2023.
6’0 CG Jan Clifton of Calaveras HS (2023)
Clifton is a combo guard with an impressive all-around package. He impacts the game in a number of ways.
He’s a fair athlete with some burst and a sneaky first step. In transition he sees the floor well and is a good passer who finds the open man. In the half court he has a good mid-range pull-up game and a very nice hesitation move drive
Clifton shoots it fairly well with 3 range and does a nice job moving without the ball.
He is a player who can be a scorer or a facility depending on the team needs.
Clifton needs to be on the 2023 for college coaches.
6’2 SG Joey Fross of St. Mary’s HS (2022)
Fross is a real aggressive two guard who plays in attack mode.
He runs the floor well and moves without the ball in the half court.
He’s a confident ball handler with a comfortable pull-up game. He goes very hard to the basket on the drive and finishes nicely. He is also a confident 3-point shooter.
Fross is a decent rebounder who does pursue the ball.
But the most noteworthy thing about this kid is the effort he makes. He gets after it!
Fross is a prospect that college college coaches need to pay attention to in the 2022 class.
6’3 W Andre Irving of Lincoln HS (San Francisco) (2022)
Irving is a fairly athletic wing man who has the ability to score the ball.
He can bounce it and get to the hoop on the drive with a solid hesitation move. He can finish the drive with a floater. He’s an ok set shooter with 3-point range.
Irving is a capable rebounder who can get to the ball with his athleticism.
He does show potential as a college prospect in the 2022 class.
6’0 CG Elijah Mobley of Weston Ranch HS (2023)
Mobley is an athletic combo guard who combines hustle and speed to impact the game. He can really run.
He’s a smooth handler who pushes the break on every possession. He finishes the break ok and has a nice floater at the end.
Mobley does a real nice job moving without the ball. He does need to prove himself as an outside shooter.
He has some ability as an on-ball defender but needs to be more consistent in that regard.
Mobley will make a strong impression on college coaches as a guy to watch in 2023.
6’0 SG Elliot Mobley of Weston Ranch HS (2023)
Mobley (brother of Elijah) is an athletic shooting guard who is an effective all-around scorer.
He handles it ok and he has the ability to score from all three levels. He can shoot it from the perimeter, he has a mid-range pull up game and he goes hard to the basket on the drive. Mobley also has an ok floater.
He can be a real matchup problem for the opponent for sure with his all-around scoring ability.
He must prove himself at the defensive end and show some aggressiveness there.
But Mobley definitely belongs on the 2023 radar for college coaches.
6’5 SF/PF CJ Ward of Weston Ranch HS (2021)
Hard is a fairly athletic combo forward with an impressive all-around game. He brings a lot to the table.
He can score in a lot of different ways. He has a pull up game, he shoots it ok with 3 range and he is a solid driver.
Ward also passes it well and can find the open man and is unselfish.
The most impressive thing about him is his ability to rebound. He is very active on the glass and he pursues every shot. He also outlets it well to initiate the break.
Ward is also an effective shot blocker who creates real problems for anyone coming into the lane.
This kid is a legit prospect and coaches need to get on him.
West Coast Xtreme
6’5 SF Mason Jones of Galt HS (2022)
Jones is an active three man with a solid offensive game and a pretty good understanding of how to play.
He is a capable ball handler who has a pull-up game in the half court. He can pass the ball and plays unselfishly. He is a fairly good set shooter with long range.
Jones could probably help himself by becoming a force at the defensive end.
But this is a guy who belongs on the class of 2022 radar.
6’3 CG Josh Kendra of Pioneer HS (2021)
Kendra is a highly competitive combo guard who goes hard on every possession at both ends. He is a guy you want on your side because of his effort.
He’s a confident handler and a good passer who makes pretty good decisions. He easily fits into whatever the role team needs.
Kendra does have a pull-up game in the half court and he can get to the basket on the drive. He is in constant motion without the ball. He does need to prove himself as a perimeter shooter.
He’s a hard-working defender who does put consistent pressure on the ball.
Kendra is a guy that any coach can appreciate because of the effort he makes.
6’2 SG Tammy Milutin of Month Vista HS (2021)
Milutin is a fundamentally sound two guard with a somewhat versatile skill set.
He’s a decent driver who can post up a little and knock down an open perimeter shot.
Milutin has a high IQ and plays with a lot of efficiency
The best thing about him is how he works on defense. He will get down in a stance and guard the ball aggressively.
He’s also a solid rebounder from the guard position.
Milutin is a player that college coaches will have a lot of confident in.
6’5 PF/C Harry Nauci of Santa Clara HS (2021)
Nauci is a big and strong combo postman who is a nice inside/outside scorer.
He can dribble operation the block and has an assortment of scoring moves. He is what they call “hard to guard”.
He can also hit the perimeter shot and stretch the defense out.
Nauci moves ok without the ball and is a pretty good passer who sees the court from the block against a double team.
He is a real good rebounder who does pursue the ball consistently and can rebound in traffic.
Nauci will definitely play college basketball- it’s just a question of what level he ends up at.
6’1 CG Justice Owens of Pioneer HS (2021)
Owens is an athletic combo guard with a nice skill set and a consistent motor. Simply, he is a guy with some talent who plays hard (and he never stops running).
He is a good ball handler and passer who sees the floor in transition and can make plays for himself and others. He finishes well at the end of the break.
Owens can score from all three levels in the half court (perimeter shot, mid-range pull up, on the drive). But he is comfortable and capable as either a scorer or a facilitator/distributor.
He does make a pretty consistent effort at the defensive end.
Owens is a legit prospect and will make some college coaches happy to have him.
5’8 PG Fredge Ramos of Santa Clara HS (2021)
Ramos is an impressive one-man with a solid all-around game. He does a lot of different things to help his team.
He is a solid ball handler and passer who does a nice job making plays in transition. He finds the open man consistently.
Ramos has a real good-looking shot. You think every shot he takes is going in when you watch him shoot. And he has long range.
He is a solid on-ball defender who will get in a stance and guard you and make things difficult for you.
Ramos is a guy any coach can appreciate due to his versatility.
6’7 C/PF Fabian Reichstadt of San Benito HS (2021)
Reichstsdt is a combo postman with a pretty complete set of skills. He brings a lot to the table.
He handles it a little and he is a nice passer. He shoots it fairly well mid-range. He has a solid one-bounce drive and a nice drop step move on the block.
Reichstadt can score a lot of ways and he moves ok without it. His shot selection is a little shaky at times.
He can rebound in his box (area). He probably needs to show more defensively.
Reichstadt will attract the attention of college coaches and will play at some level.
