Report on West Coast Super Showcase

The West Coast Super Showcase was held Sunday October 29th at Chabot College in Hayward. Here is a report on the event.

Top Prospects:

6’2'' SG Ben Baker of Berkeley HS 2018 (Berkeley Bullseye #1)

Baker is an active and athletic two guard who makes a lot of scoring plays both in transition and in the half court. He handles and passes it fairly well and finishes well. He’s a fairly good (set) shooter with 3 range but his release is a little slow. He is an EXCELLENT rebounder from the guard position who is very active on the glass. Baker does have Division I potential.

5’10'' PG Kyree Brown of Berkeley HS 2018 (Berkeley Bullseye #1)

Brown is a fairly strong and athletic one man who really pushes the break hard. He’s a good passer who sees the floor well and finds the open man. He’s a solid driver, an ok shooter with 3 range and a solid defender. Brown is a confident team leader who is worth a look for low majors.

6’4'' G/W Franchon Butler of Wilcox HS 2018 (Palo Alto Flight 17u)

Butler is an athletic guard/wing who runs the floor well and has leaping ability. He shows the ability to pull up in the half court. He is a good driver and shootsit fairly well with long 3-point range. Butler is also a good passer who sees the floor well.

6’3'' F Jayshaun Collins of Hanford HS 2018 (KC Hoopers)

Collins is a versatile combo forward who can score in different ways. He’s a solid driver with a hesitation move who finishes well and he has a nice pull up floater. He has a jump hook on the block and he’s an above average shooter. Collins is also a solid rebounder.

5’10'' CG Jacob Ebert of Cornerstone Christian HS 2021 (Blaze Elite 16u)

Ebert is a promising combo guard with a nice skill set. He has solid ball handling skills and shows the ability to finish in transition. He can shoot it with 3-point range and he can get to the basket on the drive. Ebert is a prospect who does belong on the 2021 radar with his ultimate level to be determined.

5’10'' PG Jaquory Gilmer of West Campus HS 2018 (Independent #1)

Gilmer is an athletic one man (with long arms) who uses his athleticism well. He beats the defender on the drive consistently and he elevates at the rim to finish. He is a hustler who works hard at the defensive end. Gilmer’s issue is that he has a tendency to over dribble.

6’0'' PF Josiah James of Hanford West HS 2020 (KC Hoopers)

James is a pretty athletic one man who passes it well. He can shoot it some in the mid-range and he is a capable defender. James is a leader who can run a team and gets teammates involved.

6’3'' PG Landen Manuel of Salesian HS 2019 (Team Steady)

Manuel is an athletic one man with a solid handle. He pushes the break consistently and does a nice job making plays in transition. He is an effective driver/penetrator who finishes well and he can shoot it ok with 3 range. Manuel is a Division I prospect.

5’9'' PG Milloni Massey of Lathrop HS 2018 (Independent #1)

Massey is a one man with an excellent burst of speed and a nice motor. He never stops running and he is a productive playmaker in transition. He is a solid driver with a good first step. Massey over dribbles at times and he needs to do a better job running a team in a half-court setting.

5’9'' CG Romen Merritt of Clayton Valley HS 2019 (Hoyas Blue)

Merritt is a real athletic combo guard who is always in motion. He’s a capable handler who gets things done on the break. He moves fairly well without the ball, is a good driver and a fairly good shooter with 3-point range. Merritt creates a lot of havoc defensively trapping and getting steals.

5’7'' PG Alfred Njunge of Pittsburg HS 2019 (Blaze Elite 16u)

Njunge is a one man with speed to burn who excels in transition. He’s a confident ball handler who pushes the break consistently. He has a motor and shows the ability to break down defenders in the half court. Njunge needs to prove himself as a perimeter shooter.

6’5'' SF Leonard Turner of Moreau Catholic HS 2019 (MC Hoops/Team Steady)

Turner is an athletic wing who is a nice all around scorer. He does a good job attacking the basket on the drive (both in transition and in a half court setting). He shoots it ok with 3 range and he posts up a little. He’s also an aggressive rebounder. Turner is a Division I prospect at some level.

6’0'' CG DeraVixon of Dozier Libby HS 2019 (Blaze Premier 16u)

Vixon is an excellent athlete with long arms who can really run and jump. He is a capable ball handler and passer who sees the floor. He’s a good driver with a nice first step who gets by defenders consistently. He moves fairly well without the ball, has a solid floater shot and is a capable rebounder. Vixon has a tendency to be too fancy at times.
