Report on 2017 Sports Academy Competition Clinic

The second annual Sports Academy Competition Clinic was held Sunday October 1, 2017 at the Sports Academy in Thousand Oaks. Here is a report on the event (based on player performance in this event).

Top Prospects:

6’2 G/W Yatyn Anderson of Grenada HS 2019 (Team Independent)

Anderson is a strong and aggressive guard/wing that makes things happens. He’s a capable ball handler who can create for himself and others. He is a good passer who finds the open man consistently. His best asset is his ability to get to the basket on the drive on a consistence basis. He also has a nice pull-up game and is a solid rebounder and defender. Anderson projects to be a solid Division II prospect (with possible higher potential if his perimeter shot develop)

6’5 SF Kyle Colvin of Mission Prep 2018 (3 Ball 17U)

Colvin is a long armed wing man with a nice all-around skill set. He’s a capable ball handler and a real good passer who sees the floor well. He shoots the ball well with 3-point range and has a solid floater shot. He’s a very knowledgeable player with a high IQ. He could use some bulk/strength on his relatively slender frame. Colvin has Division I potential and is best suited as a system type player.

6’3 W CJ Finley of Valencia NS 2018 (EVO Vikings)

Finley is a wing man with a versatile all-around game. He’s a real nice passer who sees the floor and can make plays in transition. He can finish well, both in transition and in the half court and has a solid hesitation move. Finley looks to be a solid Division II prospect.

6’4 WF Omari Preston-Jordan of Berkeley HS 2019 (Team Independent)

Jordan is an athletic combo forward with long arms. He can score in a variety of ways in the paint area (finishing or posting up). He can also shoot it ok with 3 range. He’s also a capable rebounder and shot blocker. He needs to compete on every play but Jordan is a Division II prospect.

6’5 C/F Bailey Greenberg of Sherman OAKS CES HS 2021 (Impact)

Greenberg is a fairly athletic combo postman with long arms and soft hands. He has a good shooting touch from short to mid range and has a nice drop step on the block. He is also a capable rebounder. Greenberg’s game is still developing but he is certainly a Division I prospect.

6’4 SF Yohance Sharpe of Little Rock HS 2019 (BCG Elite/Crush)

Sharpe is a long and athletic wing with some explosiveness. He’s a capable ball handler and passer who has a solid mid-range pull up game. He moves ok without the ball and can shoot it ok with 3 range. He is a good driver with an impressive first step. Sharpe is a solid prospect with Division I potential.

6’2 PG Colin Walton of Thousand Oaks HS 2021 (Thousand Oaks HS)

Walton is a one man with a very nice all-round game. He has solid ball handling skills and does a nice job running a team. He’s an effective playmaker in transition that sees the floor well. He gets in the lane on a consistent basis to make plays for himself or others. He’s also a capable on- ball defender. Walton is a bright young Division I prospect with a promising future.

6’7 Kyler Warren of Atascadero HS 2018 (3 Ball 17 U)

Warren is a big-bodied five man with soft hands who is hard to guard on the block. He dribble operates effectively and has a clever mini jump hook. He can pass the ball and has good court vision from the post. He is a capable rebounder in his box. He also has a nice mid-range shooting touch. Warren needs to get his body better and develop more conditioning.

He lies on the fence between high Division II/low Division I.
