Report on Nor Cal Summer Tip Off

The eighth annual Nor Cal Summer Tip Off was held Friday and Saturday July 14-15 at City College of San Francisco. Here is a report on this NCAA live period event. Players are listed alphabetically by last name.

Top Prospects (* indicates highest consideration)

*6’7 PF Ayodele Aderoboye of Woodside Priory HS 2018 (Oakland Soldiers 17 Blue)

Real athletic/explosive. Has a decent post -up game. Capable rebounder.

 

6’4 PF Ronald Agebsar of Sheldon HS 2018 (Lakeshow 17 Elite)

Can dribble operate in the block. Has an ok one-bounce drive. Finishes well. Solid rebounder.

 

6’10 C Emmanuel Ajanaku-Makun of Woodside Priory HS 2018 (Oakland Soldiers 17 Blue)

Athletic, long arms. Can short drive. Ok passer. Dribble operates on the block.

6’7 PF Jay Allen-Tovar of Valley Christian HS 2019 (Soldiers 16u)

Nice stroke from free throw line out to 3.  Big body with good coordination.  Rebounds within his area.  Can be a playmaker if consistently he uses his size and knowhow to impose his will on opponents.

 

6’0 G Elijah Alonso of Dublin HS 2020 (Lakeshow 15’s Elite)

Versatile and physical, uses body to defend players in the post and length to defend the perimeter.  Uses simple moves to slash into the lane and finish through contact. Ok with 3 range.

 

6’0 G Justin Anderson of Menlo-Atherton HS 2020 (Bay Area Sonics 16u)

Versatile athlete that gets after it on defense.  Playmaker in the open court and off dribble penetration.  Aggressive off of ball screens. Solid driver who finishes well.

 

*6’1 PG Steven Ashworth of Lone peak HS 2018 (Salt Lake Metro 17 Black)

Aggressive pushing the break. Has a motor. Goes hard to the basket on the drive. Works on defense.

 

6’3 SG Benjamin Barrett of Piedmont HS 2018 (Lakeshow 17 Black)

Finishes ok in transition. Can handle it. Good passer. Shoots it fairly well with 3 range, decent driver.

6’2 SG James Beckwith of Menlo-Atherton HS 2019 (Bay Area Sonics 17u)

Moves well without the ball. Good shooter with 3 range (catch & shoot). Has a nice floater. Handles it ok. Pulls up well in the half court.

 

6’3 SF Xavier Brown of Sheldon HS 2020 (Team Lillard 15u)

Steady versatile player.  Uses long arms and anticipation to get deflections.  Slasher that can get into the lane to score or find open teammates. Can finish in transition. Ok rebounder.

 

*6’4 F Malachi Butler of Downey HS 2019 (Chuck Hayes 2020)

Active, long athlete.  Can pass it. Has a one-bounce drive. Works to seal off for post position.  Gets rebounds and deflections.

 

 

6’6 C Kaleb Carter of A.A. Stagg HS 2018 (Chuck Hayes 16u)

Long and athletic energy player.  Active on rebounds and loose balls.  Boxes out well.  Decent 1-dribble drive from the high post.

 

5’10 PG Ethan Chai of Archbishop Riordan HS 2020 (Bay Area Sonics 15u)

Solid handles, takes care of the ball against pressure.  Good shooter, finishes layups with either hand.

 

*6’3 SG William Chavarin of Bishop O’Dowd HS 2019 (Soldiers 16u)

Nice mid-range pull up jumper.  Good form with high release. Sees the floor. Finishes well in transition. Has a floater drive.

 

6’1 PG James Chun of Riordan HS 2018 (Lakeshow 17 Black)

Confident ball handler, good passer. Nice court vision. Has a nice pull up game. Shoots it well with 3 range.

 

5’10 G Xavier Coloyan of Sacred Heart Cathedral HS 2020 (Bay Area Warriors 15)

Good feel for the game, takes care of the ball and makes good passes.  Can make 3s when given space.

 

5’10 PG Jacob Corpus of De La Salle HS 2020 (Lakeshow 15 Black)

Can make open set shots out to 3.  Good passer.  Good awareness, always ends up around the ball on defense.

 

5’9 G Nick Costello of Dublin HS 2020 (Lakeshow 15 Black)

Chippy/scrappy gamer, loves mixing it up.  Dove for loose balls several times each game and came up with the ball more often than not.  Uses quick hands and low stance to pressure the ball.  Crafty finisher in the lane. Can shoot it with 3 range.

 

6’3 SG Marquis Davison of Vanden HS 2018 (Lakeshow 16’s Elite)

Aggressive scorer.  Shoots the 3 off of screens with good form and foot work. Solid driver, pulls up well half court. Can rebound.

 

6’2 F Pat Deely of San Ramon Valley HS 2020 (Lakeshow 15 Black)

Crafty ball handler, at times uses fancy moves when a simple move will do.  Solid 3-point shooter that can hit the mid-range off the bounce.  Finishes with either hand. Rebounds well in traffic.

 

6’2 SF Tyler Dickson of El Cerrito HS 2019 (Soldiers 16u)

Athletic slasher.  Nice in and out move in the open court to get to the rim. Finishes well in transition.

 

6’6 PG Spencer Duane of Oak Ridge HS 2018 (Oak Hill 17)

Good ball handler and passer. Sees the floor. Pulls up well in transition. Plays in attack mode. Needs a better feel for the game.

 

6’0 CG Isaiah Dwelle of Mitty HS 2020 (Team Lillard 15u)

Fairly athletic with skills. Plays with energy.

 

*6’2 SG Austin Fadal of Monte Vista HS 2017 (Lakeshow 17 Elite)

Excellent pull up game. Moves fairly well without the ball. Can shoot it with 3 range.

 

 

6’6 C Ramon Farias of College Park HS 2020 (Lakeshow 15’s Elite)

Big dody, doesn’t mind banging opponents around in the paint. Aggressive rebounder on both ends of the floor.   Soft touch near the rim. Can dribble operate on the block.

 

6’6 PF Tyler Garay-Harris of Bishop O’Dowd HS 2019 (Lakeshow 16’s Elite)

Good size with a thick frame.  Creates contact to finish under the rim.  Awkward but effective jumper from the high post. Can short drive.

 

6’0 SF Mills Glader of Menlo-Atherton HS 2019 (Bay Area Sonics 16u)

Energy player that has a nose for the ball.  Runs the floor hard.  Does the dirty work, boxes out and rebounds against bigger opponents.

 

*6’7 C Devin Green of Castro Valley HS 2020 (Team Lillard 15u)

Sets good screens.  Moves his feet well for a player his age and size.  Controls the defense by talking and calling out defensive coverages.  Good rebounder. 

 

6’5 PF Peter Gwananji of Sacramento HS 2020 (Sacramento Magic 15)

Good size, long arms.  Slasher that make plays with his size and athleticism.  Could be very good with a better motor.

 

*6’7 SF Coleman Hawkins of Antelope HS 2020 (Sacramento Magic 15)

Long athlete that moves very well.  Runs the floor hard.  Good footwork in the post and on the perimeter.  Smooth stroke on his jumper out to 3.  Finishes well around the rim. Can block a shot.

 

5’11 SF Quincy Hayes of Cloverdale HS 2020 (Chuck Hayes 2020)

Good team defender.  Rotates well, gets deflections, good communicator.

 

*6’8 Cade Hoppe of Oak Ridge HS 2018 (Oak Hill 17)

Fairly good strength, aggressive, solid post-up game. Runs the floor hard. Consistent rebounder and defender.

 

6’4 SG Justin Huelskamp of San Joaquin Memorial HS 2019 (Chuck Hayes 16u)

Lefty with solid handle, nice form on his shot out to the 3-point line.  Made good decisions in the pick and roll.

 

6’3 SF Kyahn Issa of Pitman HS 2020 (Chuck Hayes 2020)

Athletic slasher that gets into the lane.

 

6’6 C Everett Johnson of Turlock HS 2020 (StancoStampete 15u)

Big body that moves surprisingly well.  Does his work early to seal for post position.  Good drop step.

 

*6’6 PF David Jones of Grant Union HS 2019 (Team Lillard 16u)

Long athlete, plays with good energy and activity without the ball.  Good hands, catches tough passes. Has a turnaround shot on the block. Gets deflections on defense. Can rebound.

 

 

 

6’5 SF William Kastner of Menlo HS 2020 (Team Lillard 15u)

Good spot up shooter.  Able to defend inside players and perimeter players.  Good passer from the high post.  Nice spin-move fadeaway from the mid-post.

 

5’10 SG Nikolas Kieffer of Las Lomas HS 2020 (Lakeshow 15 Black)

Good athlete, changes speed and direction well.  Quick with good anticipation on offense and defense.  Good passer.  Good shooting form but does not aggressively look for his shot. Does have a drop step on the block.

 

6’6 PF Anthony Landphere of Saint Francis HS 2019 (Peak Basketball 16u)

Good size, moves well.  Uses body to back down defender in the post.  Turns over either shoulder to score.

 

5’11 G Donjae Lindsey of Weston Ranch HS 2021 (Lakeshow 15’s Elite)

Physical guard that plays with energy.  Likes to attack off the dribble seeking contact.

 

5’9 SG Owen Liston of Menlo-Atherton HS 2020 (Bay Area Sonics 15u)

Good passer, advances the ball to the open man in transition.  Moves well without the ball.  Talks on defense.

 

5’10 PG Marshall Lott of California HS 2019 (Bay Area Warriors 16)

Fast point guard that pushes the tempo.  Constantly attacking off the dribble to create for himself or teammates.

 

5’10 PG Tjay Lowery of River City HS 2020 (Team Lillard 15u)

Uses quick feet to pressure ball handlers, though he got beat a few times when he reached.  Good shooter off the catch and off the dribble.  Passes well off dribble penetration.

 

6’0 PG Connor Lusk of Palo Alto HS 2020 (Peak Basketball 15u)

Solid ball handler, organizes his team.  Changes pace to get by defenders off the dribble, able to finish through contact.  Good instincts on defense.  

 

*6’1 PG Matthew Marzano of Palo Alto HS 2020 (Peak Basketball 15u)

Crafty ball handler that plays with poise.  Good passer both running set offense as well as creating off dribble penetration.  Active, moves without the ball to affect help defenders. Posts up a little.

 

6’0 SG Jake Mathews of Redwood HS 2018 (Bay Area Warriors 16)

Shoots it from deep.  Active on both ends of the floor.  Does not hold on to the ball, passes to the open man to keep the defense moving.

5’7 PG Deontae Mayfield of Archbishop Riordan HS 2020 (San Francisco Rebels 15u)

Playmaking point guard with good court vision.  Good handles, but over-dribbles at times.  Creates for himself and teammates.  Good shooter with deep range off the dribble.

6’2 CG Jayce McCain of Folsom HS 2018 (Lakeshow 17 Black)

Handles and passes it well. Has a nice pull-up game, can penetrate, has a nice hesitation drive.

5’10 G JovonMcClananan of Salesian HS 2019 (Soldiers 16u)

Aggressive and physical on-ball defender.  Good passer.  Probes the defense on ball screens.  Finishes well through contact.

 

5’10 PG Jaden McClananan of Salesian HS 2019 (Soldiers 16u)

Aggressive and physical on-ball defender.  Uses body to create space.  Passes well of dribble penetration.  Strong finisher in traffic.

*6’1 SF Malcolm McCray-Hill Saint Ignatius HS 2020 (San Francisco Rebels 15u)

Athletic scorer, can slash to finish in traffic and shoot out to 3.  Active and aggressive defender.  Good rebounder with a nose for the ball.

*5’11 PG AJ McGee of Grant Union HS 2020 (Sacramento Magic 15)

Excels in transition.  Quick off the dribble, makes good decisions.  Creates for himself and others.

 

6’3 SF Kyle McGraw of The Nueva School HS 2019 (Peak Basketball 16u)

Good passer, makes the simple play.  Versatile, can defend inside and perimeter.  Makes winning plays, whether scoring or not.

 

6’2 CG Masie Mohamidi of Serra HS 0218 (Lakeshow 17 Black)

Shoots the 3 with deep range. Makes numerous plays in transition. Always in motion.

 

*6’6 PF George Aaron Murphy of Modesto Christian HS 2019 (Chuck Hayes 16u)

Does his work early to seal off defender for post position.  Good drop step and step through moves in the post.  Keeps the ball high on offensive rebounds.  Very active, aggressive rebounder on both ends of the floor.  Runs the floor hard.

 

*6’9 C Tyler Nanney of Amador Valley HS 2019 (Team Lillard 16u)

Big body, runs the floor well.  Seals off defender for position in the post.  Soft hands with good touch around the rim.  Prefers jump hook over left shoulder.  Passes well out of the double team.  Can shoot out to 15 feet.

Long athlete that plays multiple positions.  Eagerly defends all over the floor.  Closes out hard to pressure the ball or get steals.  Solid shooter, uses shot fake to set up slashing drives.  Steady ball handler, makes good decisions.

 

6’0 SG Lajuan Nelson of Carlmont HS 2019 (San Francisco Rebels 16u)

Gritty player, active on both ends of the floor.  Has a variety of floaters and crafty flip shots in the lane.

 

*6’0 SG Trevon Norton of Menlo-Atherton HS 2020 (Bay Area Sonics 16u)

Competitive and tough.  Very fast in the open court.  Dribble drives hard primarily to the right, gets to the rim and finishes through contact.  Has a nice floater.Good on-ball defender, plays passing lanes well off the ball.

 

*6’2 PG Trevon O’Neal of Freedom HS 2019 (Lakeshow 16’s Elite)

Power guard with good size. Uses strength and athleticism to affect the game.  Can post up, finish through contact off the dribble, and rise up in the mid-range.  Has a floater. Shoots it fairly well. Likes to grab the defensive rebound and get into transition. Clever fakes and hesitations off of ball screens.  Good passer that uses a variety of fakes.

 

*6’2 SF Amin Oglesby of Sacred Heart Cathedral HS 2018 (San Francisco Rebels 16u)

High energy play maker.  Aggressive scorer that prefers to take on contact to finish at the rim.  Decent mid-range pull up. Can dribble operate. Has a decent jump hook. Strong athlete.

 

*5’9 PG Tyler Owens of Bellarmine College Prep HS 2019 (San Francisco Rebels 16u)

Point guard with a clever handle.  Good shooter with deep range.  Plays hard on defense, has quick hands.

 

6’0 PG Brenden Patrick of Bishop O’Dowd HS 2019 (Lakeshow 16’s Elite)

Steady and deliberate ball handler, vocal leader and good decision maker.  Good in transition, though occasionally forces drives into too much traffic. Can finish through contact, and has good elevation on mid range pull up.  Shoots a bit of a set shoot from 3.  Aggressive ball hawk defender. Can make plays in transition. A little inconsistent.

 

*5’10 PG Michael Pearson Jr of Modesto Christian HS 2020 (Chuck Hayes 16u)

Floor general/leader.  Constantly checking the time and score and communicating with teammates.  Quick and really fast with a tight handle.  Makes good decisions.  Can get to the rim and finish, pull up in the mid-range, and shoot the 3, effective in transition. Hit five 3’s in the last few minutes of a 20-point comeback victory.

 

5’8 PG Oscar Pedraza of Saint Francis HS 2019 (Peak Basketball 16u)

Leads vocally and by effort.  Makes good passes within the half-court offense.  Quick hands, plays the passing lanes.

 

6’0 SG Aidan Pidgeon of St Ignatius HS 2020 (NBBA 16u Baker)

Active and aggressive, plays hard on both ends.  Good feel for the game and seems to find himself in the right place to make the right play. 

 

6’4 SF Christian Pitcher of Berean Christian HS 2019 (Bay Area Warriors 16)

Very good outside shooter with deep range.  Uses deliberate dribble moves to penetrate, shoots a nice step back.  Long arms and strong body, slow footed.  Relies on instinct and know-how.  

 

*6’3 SG Justin Pratt of De La Salle HS 2018 (Lakeshow 17 Elite)

Tough competitor. Moves well without the ball. Has a nice middle game. Shoots it well with 3 range (catch and shoot). Aggressive driver.

 

*6’5 SF Alondre Ray-Love of Salesian HS 2020 (Team Lillard 15u)

Physical slasher with a strong frame.  Dynamic in the open court pushing the break or running hard to fill the lanes.  Can rebound. Competitive, but showed some frustration at times.

 

6’1 CG Matt Redmond of St. Ignatius Prep 2018 (Lunardi’s)

Nice all around skills. Can handle, pass, drive and shoot. Moves ok without the ball. Does compete.

6’1 G WhitnerReichman of University(SF) HS 2020 (Bay Area Warriors 15)

Good outside shooter.  Solid handle, exploits angles to get by defender.  Has the skill set to be more assertive on offense. Capable rebounder. Scrappy and competitive.  

 

*6’4 SG Steven Richardson of Grant Union HS 2019 (Team Lillard 16u)

Long athlete that runs and jumps well.  Steady ball handler, nothing fancy but gets to the rim at will.  Slasher that can finish through contact.  Good standstill shooter.  Active defender gets a lot of deflections.

 

6’6 SF Skylar Robinson of California HS 2019 (Bay Area Warriors 16)

Long and lanky.  Good athlete with good timing on shot blocks.  Good upside with skill set development. Has a nice decent one-bounce drive.

 

*6’4 SG Jason Roche of St. Mary’s HS 2020 (Team Lillard 15u)

Shooter with good form and deep range.  Good team defender that always seems to be in the right place at the right time.  

6’2 SG Brandon Rutherford of Natomas Middle School 2021 (Sacramento Magic 15)

Strong frame for a young guard.  Good athlete that finishes well in transition.

Playmaker and distributor with solid handle.  Probes the defense and uses shot fakes and pass fakes looking to make penetrating passes.  Has a little burst. Makes good decisions.  Can shoot the 3 off the dribble. Pulls up on in transition.

 

5’10 G Anthony Santa Maria of Monte Vista HS 2020 (Lakeshow 15’s Elite)

Good shooter from 3, can also pull up in the mid-range.  Makes the extra pass.  Gives up his body for loose balls.

 

*6’2 SG Dathan Satchell of Modesto Christian HS 2019 (Chuck Hayes 16u)

Good shooter with deep range. Has a nice floater.  Smooth finisher off the dribble.  Good handle, but can get careless with the ball. Solid rebounder. Money player.

 

6’0 PG Jacob Sharp of Jesse Bethel HS 2019 (Team Lillard 16u)

Steady point guard that runs the team.  Solid ball handler that makes good decisions.  Good spot up shooter out to 3.  Poised, made a game winning pull up jumper with time winding down and no timeouts.

 

6’3 SG Marlon Short of St. Mary’s HS 2019 (Team Lillard 16u)

Bouncy athlete with inconsistent motor.  Uses good jab step to set up slashing drives.  Uses a variety of finishes at the rim through contact.  Good entry passer into the post.  Difference maker when he is active and plays with energy.

Young point guard that plays with good pace.  Efficient handle that is not flashy, gets to his spots.  Very clever passer that gets teammates the ball on time.  Good shooter off the catch and off the dribble.

5’11 PG Jacob Smith of El Cerrito HS 2018 (Oakland Soldiers 17 Blue)

Handles and passes it well. Capable playmaker in transition. Has a solid pull up game. Can shoot it with 3 range.

6’1 PG Kimari Smith of El Cerrito HS 2019 (Soldiers 16u)

Irritant on both ends of the floor.  Aggressive and scrappy on-ball defender.  Clever passer that can make highlight assists, but can also get careless with the ball.  Shoots the 3 from deep. Finishes in transition.

6’1 PG David Sonnier of Archbishop Riordan HS 2019 (San Francisco Rebels 16u)

Aggressive slasher, finishes with contact.  Strong athlete. Can shoot it with 3 range.

*6’6 PF Idrissa Sow of Oak Hill Academy 2018 (Pinnacle 17)

Fairly athletic, long arms. Can handle and pass. Shoots it ok mid-range. Can pull up half court. Ok shot blocker and rebounder. Sleeper who is a nice prospect.

6’4 SF Landis Spivey of Aspire Langston Hughes Academy HS 2018 (Chuck Hayes 16u)

Long and athletic.  Handles it ok, passes it well. Moves feet well, defended the other teams’ best perimeter player.

*6’5 SF Spencer Spivy of University HS 2018 (Bay Area Warriors 17)

Real nice shooter with 3 range. Moves well without the ball. Good passer. Runs the floor well. Knows how to play.

6’0 SG Eli Thomas of Pleasant Valley HS 2020 (Sacramento Magic 15)

Good instincts on defense, always seems to be around the play.  Runs the lanes hard for layups or to the corner for spacing.

6’5 SG Sam Tobin of Mountain View HS 2019 (Peak Basketball 16u)

Wing player with good length.  Versatile and smart, defends multiple positions and rebounds from the perimeter.  Solid shooter.  

 

6’5 PF/C Emeka Udenyi of De La Salle 2017 (Lakeshow 17 Elite)

Strong, powerful and aggressive. A presence inside. Real good short driver. Good rebounder. Free throws need a lot of work.

 

*6’2 SG Julian Vaughns of St. Joseph- Norte Dame HS 2019 (Oakland Soldiers 17 Blue)

Fairly athletic, long arms. Can score from all three areas. Moves ok without the ball. Good rebounder from the guard position.

5’5 PG Cameron Walker of Turlock Jr High 2021 (StancoStampete 15u)

Good handles, nice floater in the lane.  Can shoot the 3 off the catch and off the dribble.  Poised leader for his age.

 

5’10 PG Trevor Wargo of Menlo-Atherton HS 2020 (Bay Area Sonics 16u)

Good passer with good court vision.  Solid playmaker in transition. Form is unorthodox, but he shoots it from deep at a good rate.

Athletic and skilled. Makes a lot of plays with the ball in his hands for himself and others. Effective in transition and the half court.
